My plans are currently to rewrite the beginning (originally a rather dramatic bedroom scene. Not quite "it was a dark and stormy night" but perhaps a little too teenage romance fantasy for its intended purpose)
Slowly fleshing out characters for a chapter or two before I start doing horrible things to them seems far more fun and rewarding.
Intended as a dark epic fantasy, beginning a trilogy, the original transcript ended up rather clipped at 70,000~ words (around half what I'd qualify as a short epic fantasy novel :P)
Here follows the blurb I gave it way back when (edited to not be quite as cheesy)
Gabrielle
is the daughter of a popular and shrewd Baron.
The
youngest heir of an insignificant fief, she is still a
princess of the realm, of the
old blood.
She is still a thrall to duty.1
She is still a thrall to duty.1
With
her eighteenth birthday fast approaching, the preparations have begun
for her wedding.
She
would marry a man she had never met, a powerful and dangerous
warlord, in the hopes of preventing the invasion of her father’s
lands.
Her
lands.
But
before that espousal day she is visited secretly in the dead of
night.
In
the embrace of an unseen stranger she lives a vivid dream.
A
powerful dream of passion and blood.
For
some inexplicable reason she has been given a gift that few receive.
Unasked
for and unwanted, she knew the consequences of that embrace.
She
must abandon her duty.
She
must abandon all that she had known before this terrible truth could
bring her family to ruin.
She
had to know why she was chosen.
Why
she had been left with her life.
But
events conspire against the whims of one little girl, an infant
vampire, sweeping her into the midst of an ancient struggle. A battle
that threatens not only her own home, but the fate of the world. A
struggle in which her father and her betrothed are far more involved
than she could possibly imagine.
